  • PNM joins leading-edge initiative to address climate risks with strengthened electric grid

    PNM, New Mexico’s largest electric utility, is leading alongside industry experts in a first-of-its-kind initiative to address the growing risk of climate change. The Climate Power Resilience and Adaptation initiative (Climate READi) is a three-year undertaking to develop a comprehensive approach to physical climate risk. These risks include impacts to the power grid from extreme weather events and changing climate, such as severe storms, higher temperatures, drought and wildfires.

    “As the impacts of physical climate risk grow more prevalent each year, a resilient and adaptive grid has become increasingly critical. This collaboration will allow us to integrate consistent, science-based insights into our planning process and prioritize the work we do to best serve our customers and to build a carbon-free grid in the face of increasing climate challenges,” said Pat Vincent-Collawn, PNM chairman and CEO.

    Climate READi is an initiative of EPRI (www.epri.com) to convene global thought leaders and industry stakeholders to develop a common framework to inform infrastructure investment and deployment. PNM, along with other sustainability-forward energy companies, will develop a consistent approach in analyzing the risks of climate change when planning, designing and operating the power system. The initiative will create a more adaptable and resilient power system for our customers that reinforces the existing grid while creating safeguards against the impacts of climate change.
