  • PNM CEO selected to discuss climate policy with President Biden and White House Senior Officials

    Feb 09, 2022

    •  PNM CEO asked to discuss the company’s leading efforts to build our nation’s clean energy future

Today, PNM president and CEO, Pat Vincent-Collawn, was invited to discuss her views on the clean energy transition and the importance of legislation that incorporates forward-thinking actions to address climate change, such as a robust clean energy tax package, at a small roundtable meeting with President Joe Biden and senior White House officials.

“I was truly honored to receive this invitation,” Vincent-Collawn said. “I took this opportunity to focus on the good work that is happening in New Mexico now. That work demonstrates the State’s leadership on climate action. National policy, local policy, and actions by every industry are needed to reverse the effects of climate change. Climate change is occurring, and we are experiencing the effects today with electric resource scarcity across the west. As I discussed what it will take to build the clean energy future on the national front with President Biden, my team at PNM is hard at work putting the final touches on a solution to this summer’s energy challenges,” said Vincent-Collawn.

Through Vincent-Collawn’s leadership, PNM has led the energy industry in transitioning to carbon-free electricity. PNM CEO shared with the nation’s top leaders the advancements that are being made in New Mexico, and the challenges that New Mexico, and the energy industry, are facing. She specifically spoke to power reliability, new technologies, interstate transmission needs, distribution infrastructure expansions, wildfire mitigation, and the benefits of clean energy tax policies for customers and for reducing emissions.

President Joe Biden invited CEOs from some of the nation’s investor-owned electric companies. PNM is a member of the Edison Electric Institute, and EEI President Tom Kuhn said, “The clean energy tax policies our delegation discussed today would allow electric companies to accelerate the clean energy transition while preserving electric reliability and affordability for the customers and communities we serve. EEI and our member companies are well-positioned to be part of the climate change solution, and we remain committed to working with the President, his Administration, and Congress to advance the policies that we need to get this done.”

The invitation to the White House shines a light on New Mexico. PNM is transitioning its electric resources to 100- percent carbon-free electricity. PNM was the first investor-owned utility to commit to a definite timetable to transitioning its electric power resources to actual zero-carbon generation resources. PNM is making this transition while balancing affordability, reliability, and supporting the impacted communities with a thoughtful and financially-backed just transition.
